Budget 2025 Indirect Tax proposals bring many changes that make taxes simpler and trade easier. The government is working on rules that help businesses grow and make goods more affordable. In this budget, the focus is on cleaning up extra charges and making taxes fairer for all.
The new rules aim to help industries and everyday people. They want to lower costs and make sure our products can compete better in the global market. At the same time, they are working to make life-saving medicines more accessible. Let’s take a closer look at these proposals.
Simplifying Customs Tariffs
There is a plan to change the customs tariff for industrial goods. The key ideas are:
- Remove 7 tariff rates.
- Use no more than one extra charge (called a cess or surcharge).
- For most items, apply an extra charge that keeps the duty the same, and for some, lower the extra charge.
Sector-Specific Changes
The proposals target certain industries with special rules:
- Make in India:
- Exemptions for open cells for LED/LCD TVs.
- Exemptions for looms used in textiles.
- Exemptions for capital goods used in making lithium ion batteries for mobile phones and electric vehicles.
- MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul):
- A 10-year exemption for goods used in ship building and for ships that are being broken down.
- Extra time for exporting railway goods that were imported for repairs.
- Export Promotion:
- Duty-free inputs for handicraft and leather sectors to boost exports.
Making Trade Easier
The government also has smart ideas to ease trade:
- A fixed time limit is set for finalizing provisional assessments.
- Companies can now voluntarily declare important facts after customs clearance. They can pay duty with interest but without any penalty.
- The IGCR rules are changed to allow a one-year period and to file a quarterly statement instead of a monthly one.
Better Access to Lifesaving Medicines
The proposals work to make important medicines more affordable:
- 36 lifesaving drugs will be added to the exempt list.
- 6 medicines will be placed on a 5% duty list.
- 37 medicines and 13 new patient assistance programs will be added to the exempt list. These changes help people with rare diseases, cancer, and severe chronic illnesses.
Overall, Budget 2025 Indirect Tax proposals are set to lower costs, boost exports, and make vital medicines more accessible. These changes could make a big difference in our daily lives and help our economy grow.
